The districts of Geneva and major sights

Geneva is composed of five major districts:
  • St Gervais and the Old Town
  • Eaux Vives
  • Hopital
  • Paquis
  • Plainpalais

The Old Town or Vieille Ville coming top on the visitor´s list, for here, you will find many of the city´s landmarks such as St. Peter´s Cathedral, the bridge “Pont du Blanc Mont”, the Reformation Wall Memorial…
St. Peter´s Cathedral is a must, a beautiful church and of great importance in Protestant history, John Calvin preached from its pulpit during the 1600´s…the church offers fabulous views of Geneva Lake and city from its Bell Tower, so comfortable shoes on for the ten minute climb recommended! As you wander about in the historic centre of the city, you will no doubt come upon the Place Bourg du Four; a great spot for a coffee break or ice cream at a bar with terrace alongside the locals, soaking in the atmosphere, people watching at its best…

For flea markets, fresh food markets, fairs and cultural performances throughout the year, off to the Plainpalais district to enjoy authentic moments on this popular esplanade…in between visits to museums such as the Patek Philippe Museum, or the Museum of the Far East with great Chinese and Japanese works of art…However, this city break offers something a little extra, fun and refreshing especially during summer is to let yourself be sprayed by the Jet d´Eau fountain, a symbol of Geneva married with a great walk along the jetty.
  • Lake of Geneva !

Enjoy water again in Lake Geneva , scenic with the mountainous backdrop, restful as you gaze upon the clear, tranquil lake in such a stunning setting, truly not to be missed. Whether you plan a picnic by the lake or go on a boat tour, a pleasure for sore eyes as you let the beauty of the lake wash over you. Find the Flower clock too, as Switzerland birthplace of watchmaking, and appreciate more of the tradition on the row of watchmaker shops in the rue du Rhone, fine quality and luxury reins in this street for luxury items and opportunity for an indulgent treat or simply admire the display of world-class brands…
